ICC's Outreach: Nishinakano Elementary School

Get paired with a Japanese partner and visit a Japanese school
to teach children about your culture! Hear the details of
how to give a school lesson at the ICC's program orientation and
meet your partner!

The Outreach Program is ideal for those interested in cross-cultural
education, volunteering, exchange with a Japanese student, practicing
public speaking, or teaching after graduation. We look forward to
your application!

*What is the ICC Outreach Program?
 The ICC Outreach Program pairs Japanese and international
 students to worktogether to create a lesson plan and materials
 for a class meant to promote cross-cultural understanding.
 The lessons are given at local or regional Japanese elementary,
 junior, and senior high schools to help foster intercultural
 understanding among school students.

<Place>: Nishinakano Elementary School (Nakano-ku, Tokyo)

Date & Time: Dec. 14th (Sat) 8:10-11:15am
          *Meeting time and place: 8:10am, Saginomiya Station,
                               Seibushinjuku Line
           (If coming from Waseda station, it is necessary
           to depart by 7:45am)

Class: 1st to 6th grade elementary school students
           (grade to teach will be assigned to successful applicants)

Content: Introduce your country and culture (45min. 2 times)
       (Create and practice a lesson plan together with your partner,
        then carry it out at the school)

Eligibility: Waseda Students who are able to participate in all the
         meetings and the actual school visit and perform required duties.

        *Attendance is required at all meetings.

*In addition to the above meetings, it is necessary to meet several times
 with your assigned partner in order to plan, prepare, and practice the lesson.

*Transportation expenses and lesson plan materials (paper, color copies, etc.)
 will be provided by the ICC.

*Participants will be decided after reviewing their reasons for applying,
 and also according to the details/requests from the host schools.

Note: Although this is a volunteer program, participants will be teaching
    a class at a scheduled time and school, and so dropping out of the
    program or being late is not acceptable. Participants are
    expected to be present and on time for all meetings in order
    to ensure the program runs smoothly.

★Students are highly encouraged to sign up for either the Wasedajitsugyo (Dec. 3)
 or the Kiyose Daiyon Elementary School (Dec. 6) or the Nishinakano Elementary
 School (Dec. 14) or the Nakano Daigo Junior High School (Dec.16) visits.
 Student pairs who can join on multiple days can use a similar lesson plan for
 each school, so you will be able to share your culture and the lesson you've
 created with more Japanese schoolchildren.
 (these students will not need to attend all of the preparation meetings)
 ※For the Wasedajitsugyo Elementary School Outreach pairs may change.

ICC Country Festival: Turkish Day! - The tastes, sounds, and sights of Turkey! - 

Date & Time: Dec. 14th, 2013 (Sat) 11:30am-5:00pm
Place: 1st Fl., Okuma Garden House (Bldg. 25)
Eligibility: Waseda students, faculty, staff and general public

(with some Turkish!)

Turkey's unique geographic location between Europe and Asia has
given rise to it's ancient history and distinctive blend of Eastern
and Western cultures. Turkey has always had a good relationship
with Japan and is well-known for its numerous World Heritage sites,
delicious food, incredible mosques and charming souvenirs.

Join the ICC's "Turkish Day" for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon!
There'll be Turkish music and belly dancing and even a stand selling
kebabs! There'll also be a speech from a Turkish disaster relief worker
about earthquakes, something both countries are unfortunately
well-acquainted with.

Why not experience some Turkish charm and learn more about
Japan-Turkey relations while enjoying a fun afternoon!?
