Get paired with a Japanese partner and visit a Japanese elementary
school to do fun activities with children in English!
For this Outreach, students will join English classes at an elementary school,
with Japanese students supporting communication between the international
students and the schoolchildren.
There is no need to prepare a lesson plan, however, team-teaching pairs
(matched by the ICC) should meet in advance to talk and ensure that they
can work smoothly during the class.
The Outreach Program is ideal for those interested in cross-cultural education,
volunteering, exchange with a Japanese student, practicing public speaking, or
teaching after graduation. We look forward to your application!
*What is the ICC Outreach Program?
The ICC Outreach Program pairs Japanese and international students to work
together to create a lesson plan and materials for a class meant to promote
cross-cultural understanding. The lessons are given at local or regional
Japanese elementary, junior and senior high schools to help foster intercultural
understanding among school students.
【Place】Wasedajitsugyo Elementary School (Kokubunji, Tokyo)
【Content】English Activities
【Eligibility】Waseda Students who are able to participate in all of the
meetings and the actual school visit and perform required the
duties. Fluent speakers of English or equivalent are welcome.
*International students who can attend both programs are highly welcome!
Note: For students who were educated in countries which are different
from their country of nationality, depending on your own experiences
and language ability, you may apply for the international student
role or the Japanese student role.

ICC Field Trip Kotobuki-chiku Tour and Visit to NPO Sanagi-tachi ~Learn about the poverty that exists in Japan~

Are you aware of the poverty that exists within Japan?
Kotobuki-chiku, located in Yokohama’s Naka-ku, is one of the
largest low-income lodging areas in Japan, with approximately
6,500 people living in 120 shelters.
Non-profit organization “Sanagi-tachi” works in this area to
provide support to people who have lost everything: their
jobs, houses, and families. “Sanagi-tachi” not only gives
material aid, but also mental and physical support as well.
On this field trip, in order to learn more about the reality of
Japanese society, we will take a tour around kotobuki-chiku and
find out more about the activities that NPO Sanagi-tachi undertakes.
Use this opportunity to become more aware of the current problems
in Japanese society.

ICC Sports Watching Event (Association Football Club) 63rd Waseda-Keio Soccer Game and National Stadium Tour

The 63rd Waseda-Keio Soccer Game will be held on July 4th.
Come cheer on Waseda’s soccer team at this match rich with
tradition at the National Stadium!
This special event will also feature a tour of Japan’s National
Stadium before the match begins. Visitors will be able to see
the National Stadium’s sports museum, the place for the Olympic
torch flame, the VIP room, the normally off-limits locker room,
and other areas that are must see for all sports fans.

fun event!

Ireland is home to a rich cinematic culture, not only including
famous movies like “Ryan’s Daughter” and “Once” but also short films.
At this Irish Festival event, the ICC will screen a selection of
short films from Ireland. There will be 8 movies shown that were
made from 2005 to 2010 and they include dramas, musicals, and more.
You won’t be able to see these films at your local cinema,
so take this chance to enjoy these short movies with other
Ireland or movie fans.

Get closer to Irish culture through an interesting lecture and dancing!
For this ICC event, the Press & Cultural Attache of the Irish Embassy
will give a talk about Irish customs, lifestyles, the values held
by Irish youth, and more.
The lecture will then be followed by a fun quiz session about Ireland,
with the winner receiving Irish goods. Afterward, CCE Japan will
introduce an Irish dance! Dancers clad in costumes with the symbolic
green of Ireland will perform light-step dance against a backdrop of
live music played with traditional Irish instruments. Participants
will also be able to try the dance with help from the Irish performers!

Aisling Braiden, Irish Embassy, Press & Cultural Attache.
Born in London, Ms. Braiden has lived in Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona,
Brussels, Paris, Bangkok, and various other places as a child.
She received her Bachelor’s in English and French from Trinity College
in Dublin, where she also received her MBA. Ms. Braiden came to Japan
on the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s
JET Programme and taught English at a junior high school in Suzuka City,
Mie Prefecture. Since 1999 she has worked as the Press & Cultural Attache
at the Embassy of Ireland. She speaks Japanese and a number of European languages.
Her interests include fine art, education, travel, and the outdoors.

Well known in Indonesia, Irma Devita Purnamasari is an expert
on law and legal matters, including Islamic law. She has appeared
on talk shows for national Indonesian television/radio to
discuss a variety of legal issues. She has written several books
and is a public speaker, instructor, and trainer. For this event,
she will come to the ICC to talk about life and law in Indonesia
as well as her experiences as a sought-after legal expert.

Graduated from the faculty of law at the University of
Indonesiaand went on to get a Master’s of Notary from
the same university, leading to her position as an official
public notary in Jakarta. In Indonesia, notaries are similar

Ireland is northwestern European country that’s an Island nation
like Japan but smaller, about the size of Hokkaido.
Not only is Ireland famous for its lush green scenery and
Guinness pouring pubs, it also has a rich culture of traditional
dance and music. Numerous masterpieces in literature, drama, and poetry
were created by Irish authors, many of whom are Nobel Prize winners.
Come experience the charms of Ireland that have made it a popular
tourist destination and a cultural influence throughout the world.

Ireland is home to a rich cinematic culture, not only including
famous movies like “Ryan’s Daughter” and “Once” but also short films.
At this Irish Festival event, the ICC will screen a selection of
short films from Ireland. There will be 8 movies shown that were
made from 2005 to 2010 and they include dramas, musicals, and more.
You won’t be able to see these films at your local cinema,
so take this chance to enjoy these short movies with other

Soccer, travel, cuisine… in a variety of ways, Spain can be considered
a “hot” country. One of the best symbols of the passion of this culture
is the Flamenco dance. From the Andalusia region of southern Spain,
Flamenco is a blend of music and dance styles that creates a unique and
colorful folk dance.
For this event, a leading Flamenco instructor from Spain will come to the
ICC to give a talk about Flamenco and provide a free dance lesson!

Instructor Profile:
Benito Garcia Pino
Born in 1977 in Cordoba, Spain. Began Flamenco at age 7,
and debuted as a professional at age 16.
Established the Benito Garcia Flamenco Studio in Japan.
Has appeared in a Pola cosmetics commercial, a LOEWE event,
and on a variety of TV shows. Currently he does live performances
and TV appearances. From 2008-2009 he was a Flamenco instructor at the
Instituto Cervantes, Spanish Cultural Center in Tokyo.
In 2011 he appeared in a promotional video for the Spanish Soccer League
“Liga Espanola”.

Field Trip JAL Airlines Maintenance Factory Visit

The always popular Japan Airlines Maintenance Factory Tour is back this term!
Take a trip out to near Haneda Airport where the factory is located and enjoy
the privilege of hearing from JAL experts at the site about how these giant jets
are kept in top flying condition.
Afterward, visit the aircraft hanger to see a plane undergoing maintenance work.
Get up close to one of these large aircraft and learn interesting facts about air travel.
If you have an interest in airplanes, flight, or even just travel, then be sure to

Enrique Asorey has developed his professional career with several
postings in Seoul, Manila, NATO in Brussels, the U.N. in Geneva,
and in Washington, including Director for Cultural Relations
Agreements at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Area Director for Economic
Relations with Asia-Pacific, and Deputy Director General for
International Security Issues, among others.

With a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Humanity Science and a Master’s degree
in Cultural Management, Teresa Iniesta has developed her professional

Thai Cafe ~ Thailand from the student point of view ~

Get to know Thailand from the student’s perspective and
learn basic Thai greetings and writing at the ICC’s Thai Cafe.
For this event a Waseda student from Thailand will share about
Thai culture and teach a fun Thai game. You’ll also be able to learn
basic Thai and how to write in Thai characters. Afterward, enjoy a
casual cafe time to chat with students from Thailand to talk
about Thailand and get some travel tips. Come stop by and enjoy
this chance to get to know Thai culture and students.
We will also have spring rolls, a popular Thai dish.
Program: 4:30-4:50pm Presentation about Thailand, Thai culture, and student life
by Suthinan Thanintranon, a Thai student at the Waseda School
